I've searched the www hard and my local dealer isn't helpful. So I automatically default to this group everytime.

The rifle is 3 years old and is the tubular fed semi auto. Relevant to my seach is that is also a nickle plated/SS model, with a SS scope and hardware. The stock is a checkerd walnut that came with it. I'm not interested in changing it.

The problem is that I'm wanting to install a sling and swivel mount studs. There isn't enough wood in the forestock (to thin). I've found some Uncle Mike's that have a ring that slips over the magazine tube for the front swivel. This is completely acceptable, except that they aren't nickle/SS.

Thanks for your valuable suggestions.

Hi, Skinnywater.

I think I'd get the Uncle Mike's and take it apart, then have the fittings nickle or chrome plated.

Good luck. :)

Re: Marlin Mod60 help please.

Have you checked directly w/ Marlin? I changed out a barrel band on a tube fed 30/30 w/ one that had a stud attached that I ordered directly from Marlin. I think the part was shown in the owners manual so I called. There is a Marlin forum somewhere too. I bet someone there would know.
BTW I've mixed & matched some stainless & blued parts/scopes on guns & it often looks fine.

Re: Marlin Mod60 help please.

Thank you.
The Marlin talk site is down for some reason and isn't accepting new registrations at this time.
The model 60SS shown has a laminated stock (butt ugly)and I notice the gun comes with the studs, where mine didn't. I'm thinking the front stud anchor is embedded in the lamination.
I've gathered from my seaching that the wood stocks need the magazine band. Having the Uncle Mike's setup for this gun plated is certainly an option.
I'm sure I have the parts breakdown somewhere, and that's a great idea if it has the stuff on it.
I'll post what I come up with.

Re: Marlin Mod60 help please.

I have a Marlin 60 with the blued barrel and the plain wood stock that I also had a bit of trouble with mounting a sling.
I got the stock swivel mount in just fine but, the foreend mount threw me for a little loop with the seeming lack of wood to fasten it to.
I found a mount kit with a short, coarse threaded stud and used that with two thin nylon washers under the stud-head and tightened it right up. It has lasted for the entire four years I have had it.
Maybe you could find a stainless stud similar to the one I mentioned and do a similar install?
Or, you could install a T-nut inside the foreend where you want to place the stud and screw the mount into that.

Either one of these are for the rifle.

http://www.uncle-mikes.com/adtempla...y=1279575&subcatky1=4548842&subcatky2=2000182

http://www.uncle-mikes.com/adtempla...y=1279575&subcatky1=4548842&subcatky2=2000182

The forward swivel mount clamps onto the tube magazine.

I've contacted the company to ask if they sell these in nickle plated or if they can plate some for me. I've not heard from them back yet.

It's a shame I'm to anal to let these work as is.
If they can't get them plated I'll buy them and see if I can get it done locally.
My last option would be to remove the blueing and check on having them powder painted to match the nickle plateing.

Skinnywater,

How has your "60" performed?

I bought two, for my sons, about three years ago. One the SS model, the other standard.

The SS model has been nothing but a headache. It jams continuously. I sent it back to Marlin three times and gave up. Now, I just live with it.

I cannot understand why the SS has been a problem and the other just goes and goes.

Re: Marlin Mod60 help please.

There is a little known secret concerning lubrication on the 60. Instead of grease, oil, WD40 on the receiver/trigger mechanism use a #2 pencil. A carpenters pencil works best. Grease and oil gum up the receiver and hold byproducts and shavings. The graphite from the pencil works flawlessly. And is very practical. Take your receiver out and wash it with WD40. Then take compressed air and blow it dry. Use the pencil on the visual friction areas. This lubrication is far superior in this specific application. You'll notice the difference right away.
As far as the SS model being different, it is. The metal has different characteristics and takes longer to wear-in. The extractor is harder and chews shavings off the extracted cases.
The SS is a harder action to operate until its broken-in.

Bulk/cheap ammo has more misfires. And it is the ammo, since I'll reload the duds and try to refire, they won't.
CCI Stingers work well. I can't say I've ever had a misfire with them.

I'd say to try what I've suggested. And burn a few hundred rounds and let us know how it works.
After that, if it isn't satisfactory, Marlin has a wonderful reputation in standing behind the product. I'd ask for a new rifle.
