Does anyone know about the quality of Marlin boats. I believe they were manufactured in Oregon and Washington. I am looking at a 1989 Marlin and would like any comments on them.

Re: Marlin Boats?

Don't quote me on this...but I believe Marlin boats were mfg'd in White City, Oregon. Don't know if they're still in business or not. Rumor I heard was they sold out to Reinell. Like Reinell, Marlin's certainly aren't one of the highest quality boats, but nice boats just the same. What matters most about the boat you're looking at is how it's been taken care of over the past 12 years. As with any used boat purchase, you need to look it over very thoroughly. Dry rot is always a concern, as is the overall condition of the engine. You didn't mention what power plant this boat has...

Walt

I just got a barn find. 1989 Marlin 18.6 cuddy cab with Ford V8. The boat looked good, cleaned up well, I striped out all of the interior. The wood under the driver side was soft. Pulled up the floor, center section and removed the fuel tank. That will give you you a great prospective of what you are dealing with. The stringer on the right side and the bulkhead under the cabin door was rotten to the core. The glass is sound, so the effort in replacing the wood was what I decided on. The wood that Marlin used was crap. There is a construction flaw in the foam area from the gas filler to the stringer. The foam settles and there is a large area that collects water against the right stringer and bulk head that does not drain. After the fuel tank is out, it is easy access for replacing the wood. I am making this a complete cosmetic restoration, since I believe the boat will outlast me.

Welcome to iboats RLENZ

You should really look at the date of a thread, (and the red warning bar). This thread is over 10 years old, I doubt he is still looking for information.
