Hi all, question about a 1955 Mercury Kiekhaefer Mark 5 I am trying to get running. I performed a compression test on this motor twice, one cylinder at a time, and got the following results (all in PSI):

Top Cylinder: 96, 97
Bottom Cylinder: 95, 96 (sorry, don't know which is 1 and 2)

I was expecting something in the 110-120 PSI range, but this my first outboard also. What do you experts think; are these numbers low and indicate that I have a parts motor, or not the case and I should keep working on it? Thanks for your help.

Re: Mark 5 Compression

Assuming that is a rope start engine those numbers are just fine.
