i called the company that makes marinetex about a question on curing temp and times.

they told me that it will not cure below 50 deg.
at 55 it will take over a week.
at there optimum 72-78 it takes 24 hours.
it does not have to stay the optimum temp for the whole 24 hours. just keep track of time at optimum temp.
if outside they said to wrap in saran wrap or tarp to keep the heat in durring the night.
you can use a heater they said to keep it at least 4ft away from heat source.
they also said that the time to sand is when there is a blemish on top. (in 24 hrs at 72-78)

just if anybody had the same questions i did.

Simple solution I found years ago was to put a heat lamp (3.99 at wally world) on it and leave it for a few hours.I believe it actually made it cure better.Charlie

TenE and others. I have used Marine-Tex for many repair projects. I have used it to "saturate" standard fiberglass cloth. This makes it even more resistant to cracking. I have repaired metal fuel tank cracks and auto catalytic converter repairs this way. I also have used a heat lamp on it and it does speed things up. I understand that it is very flammable when soft, so do be careful.

Chris1956, do you think that marine tex would be suitable to fill small pits in an aluminum gas tank? There are no holes thru the tank.

Try to stay within the recommended temp range, or use supplemental heat. I filled a big dent in a gas tank on an old outboard when the temp was below recommended. It hardened okay, but lost little chips off the surface as I was sanding it smooth to paint...so temp affects how it bonds together I guess. Otherwise it is aces.
