mariner serial number id ?? Not pumping water - I think

Hi there,

I have an 8 hp Mariner serial number 647-L 6773 It also says Made In Japan.

Can anyone help me with the model number I should use when looking for parts?

Particularly I need a water pump kit as it doesn't appear to be pumping water... unless the water needs to be driven by movement??? Or unless it is outleting water under the water level in the barrel...

Any help would be appreciated

Unfortunately at Crowley Marine they don't go back before 1977 for Mariner by year and by serial number they have an 8A that starts with the 655- as the earliest. Great site though!

it doesn't seem that old but I think that site is probably right. It sure doesn't look 40 years old!

Do you know anything about the water intake and outlet on these motors?

It appears that this engine was made by Yamaha in the early 70's.

It has a plug near the top gear oil plug that says "WASH" this is some sort of water inlet for flushing. I was able, while running the engine with the garden hose hooked up to this inlet to have water come out the pee hole (in the middle of the back of the unit) but without the pressure of the hose no water was pumping.
Looks like it needs a new impeller - does anyone know of a good "how to" video or site? Does anyone know where I could get the part for this motor?
