Mariner outboard year ?

Hi all,

I have done a search but can not find any info on my Mariner.
I was given a boat yesterday and am trying to find what year model the motor is as I need to replace a few parts on it.

Mariner 40HP
40BE 676 BL 405561

The main part I need to replace is the cast arm where the steering cable mounts onto, it is cracked in several places.

can anyone help me findout the year of my motor im not having anyluck the guy said it was a mariner 689L402812 but i think meant to say 6E9 L 402812

Comes up as:

40 EL 6E9-402516 - 1982 All s/ns post 402516 are 1982 models.

689 was for the 30 hp series.

I could really use some assistance. I recently bought a Mariner 40 Magnum elpto. I've searched everywhere and can not find the serial number. The Model looks like 70404142AB (The AB is hard to read, it may be a AD). I need to find out the serial number and year. Any help is appreciated.

The 4 cylinder magnum was made from 1989-1993 if I remember correctly, serial number should be on swivel bracket or round disk on powerhead the size of a quarter...

You have an extra number in that model number. The correct model number is 7040412 and if it is an AD after the numbers, it would be:

7040412AD MARINER 1992 40
