What's your preference for maintenance cost, fuel consumption and power? I am in the market for a used boat and these motors are both available on lots of boats. <br />thanks for your input :)

Depends on how you use it weight. Mine gets around 6 to 7 miles per gallon on a 120 1999 force boat weighs over 3000lbs. with fuel and is 23 feet long

From all I've read on this board, I will stay away from Force. Any opinion on Mariner vs. Johnson?

Used, you never know, they've got to be checked out. If you're looking at Mariner it's the same as Mercury. Johnson was the same as Evinrude until recently. Evinrude is going down the high tech highway(good or bad?) Johnson is staying low tech (carbuerated)

I find Mariner [and Mercury] more reliable than Johnson [or Evinrude]. The VRO oil injection system is not as reliable as cam driven oil injection system in a Mariner [and Mercury]. My experience is only on carb. system.

There is nothing wrong with the 96 -99 force motors! Very much the same as Mercury. If you want the best engine look for a 2000 honda 130 4stroke. Otherwise I think all the 2strokes are about the same.
