Mariner black stator replacement

I’m in the process of replacing the stator for my 1996 40 hp mariner magnum.
It is a black stator with part number 398-9710A33.
I’ve ordered and received the replacement from CDI, part number 174-9710K 1
The documentation that came with the replacement confirmed that it replaces the original part number, that is, until I read further down in the instructions and see a note that this is the replacement for a red stator.

Do the red and black stators have the same part number?

I’m trying to get a hold of CDI but I’m put on a forever hold sating that I’m first in the queue.

I got through to CDI tech support (I think I may have called when they were not yet open). The guy I talked with was 5 star, triple A. More knowledge than I could have expected. Very impressed.

Anyhow, the stator I have is the correct replacement. As I sort of expected, this stator replaces a whole host of stators, just need to ensure the correct config.
