Hi everyone I am new to this forum this is my first post hope someone can help
my 90hp mariner year 1985 straight six is playing up. first off I only had spark on 1,3,5, cylinders this seems to be ok now that I changed a switch box.
Now and before the switch box was changed the engine is very slow, it seems to start ok rev fine when not in gear but want propel the boat over about 5 knots.
it seems to be using lots of fuel and I have put new jets in all carbs and rebuilt fuel pump with kit i purchased from main dealer. the bulb pumps up fine and stays ok. the fuel line bulb and tank are new with new fuel mixed to the right ratio and the air vent on tank open the boat is a 5.5 mtr humber rib and I am pretty shore the prop is not so wrong that it want push more than 5 knots I haven't got a rev counter but the engine seems to be doing about 3,000 rev which when under load this is reached about half throttle but never goes above when at full throttle. If anyone can help it will be appreciated and I will post back with updates to may be help someone else
Thanks in advance a troubled mariner. I should have mentioned I have done a full link and sink and timed the engine to the settings given in manual.

Those motors have a high speed and low speed windings on the stator. If the high speed windings are bad, it will not accelerate. However, I recommend you confirm as parts are pretty expensive.

CDIElectonics.com has a troubleshooting procedure for the entire ign system.
