Mariner 90HP (3cyl) Outboard Will not Turn Over

Replaced switchbox was running fine and then just shut off while underway. Retested everything, low range for stator. Replaced stator, it started and shut off now wont even turn over. I looked at the old stator and verified it was 16amps. The new stator I was given (purchased) is only 9 amps. Is that my problem?

The 9 amps is the charging rate. Shouldn't have anything to do with ignition as they are two different circuits. If you had a heavy electrical discharge, exceeding the rated capacity of the rectifier/regulator you may have run your battery down. Did you check it first?
