First off, Im not a outboard mechanic but im mechanically capable of doing most stuff if I have a manuel or at least guidance. I have a 1995 mariner 90 HP outboard. Ive searched here and seen alot of answers about the pee stream but I cant find the same problem as mine.

Here it goes, I noticed after boating yesterday that the pee stream at first shot out a nice hard stream, and after running for about 20 minutes started getting less and less until it was only dribbling out. We parked the boat and swam for about an hour to 2 hours and started it up again and same thing pee stream was hard then started puttering out at idle. When in gear it did spit some more but also spit water out the exhaust. Is this normal? I will be replacing the impellar before next outting but seeing how ive never done it, is it something I can do myself? Is it hard? Does anyone have a link to show how its done? Also there has been no overtemp alarm. I bought this boat from a one owner and the motor looks brand new but Im not sure when or if anything has been replaced.

Any help would be great.

I would guess it could be the thermostat opening up when it gets warm?

I thought about that but wouldnt you start to get more water out of the pee stream if it opened up? From what I understand you shouldnt get any stream until the motor warms up then it should start a good stream. If the motor cools down enough will it stop the stream? Seems the motor should be warm being driving for 20 minutes or so at WOT.

dont have much knowledge on the newer mercs....but if all else fails you can download a service manual that chris put up in the beginning of the merc topics

i think the first thing you should do is replace the impeller and look at the condition of the old one. if there are pieces missing off of it then they could of been circulated through your cooling system and created some blockage. if you don't have a manual yet i would suggest a factory service manual. there are many threads on this site on how to change your impeller, just use the search
