I'm new to boating but I recently purchased a 14' Jon Boat w/ a Mariner engine. The engine appears to run fine but I see other outboard engines with a very visible stream of water discharging from the engine which I assume indicates that the water pump is working fine and not clogged. I don't see this on my engine. Is there supposed to a similar stream or does the water flow exit in a different fashion? I am afraid to take anything but a "test drive" until I get an answere. I plan to take it to the shop next weekend but if this is normal for this type of Mariner engine it will save me some money. I don't know the year of the engine but I believe that it is either late 80's or early 90's

have a good hard look under the motor and see if you can fine a little hole, if theres a hole you need to replace the pump, or run the hose up water inlet (take the prop off) run engine and see it any water comes out if so is it warm if so enjoy your new boat <br />hope it helps
