Hi, just got a Mariner 8hp(at least that is what is on the cowl) but the plate is unreadable. I have 306108 on the block though &
the Carb has 6GL10WC02 (or could be 6G110WC02, it`s a 2 cylinder long shaft with CDI ignition & looking on here I think it could be 1983.

Also what would be the spark plug gap on this, the old plugs are NGK B7HS. I`ve set them at 0.6mm at the moment.

Where would I get the remote throttle linkage from?

After stripping & putting the carb back I got it running sweet but the telltale only produces a vapour instead of a stream- does this model have a thermostat which could be clogged with salt?

Thanks in advance

Where did you find the 306xxx number? Can you post a cupla photos, one of the outboard and one of the starboard side of the block?

OK, the 306108 number is on the block above the sparkplugs. The tiller was kaput so I am after sourcing the remote throttle linkage?

Cheers

Sorry, I can't find that number anywhere, either as a serial# or a part#. I can tell you your outboard is pre-1988.

Shot in the dark here but the 6G1 number on the carb helps and with the number you provided in your first post, it could be:

8C ML 6G1-305951 - 6G1-309573 1984

From here:

Mariner 2 - 8 hp, produktions?rslista, modellguide

These are Yamaha built engines for Mariner.

Here is another discussion on iboats:

http://forums.iboats.com/mercury-mariner-outboards/1984-mariner-cracked-carburetor-parts-568944.html

8C is a Yamaha designation and The ML is for manual start, long shaft.

Parts List:

6/8 H.P. - Mercury, Mercruiser, Force, etc. Parts Lookup

Is the sparkplug NGK B7HS or NGK B7HS-10 as Yamaha calls 4/5hp for the HS and 6/8hp for the HS-10

I`ve got B7HS in it & it is running ok, what difference would B7HS-10 make as these are suggested for the CDI ignition so do I need to swap?

Re: Mariner 8HP year? nothing on plate

Well, as I posted above, Yamaha calls for the HS-10 and if you look at the parts list in post # 5, item 18 under CRANKCASE AND CYLINDER HEAD, you will see that calls For HS-10 as well.

If you look at the 8C 6G1 series in this NGK link, you will see that they call for HS-10:

http://www.ngksparkplugs.ca/results...ginesize=8.0+hp&make=MARINER&apptype=Outboard

Have you looked around the engine block to see if you can find a disc like this:

If so, that will be the s/n.

Re: Mariner 8HP year? nothing on plate

Local dealer said the correct plugs are in, regapped the to 1mm & it starts easier.
I am still only getting steam from the telltale even though I changed the impeller. I put a hose on water tube in the leg & it came out the telltale, I also held the lower drive in water whilst turning the driveshaft with a drill, water coming out of the pump top as expected although not a strong squirting mind, any ideas?
