So I'm not sure on the year, and I didn't get a chance to check out the serial number today, but I have a 8hp Mariner that runs great while idling, and will respond to throttle up until about 50% throttle, then stutters and dies. I replaced the fuel (brand new fuel, mixed 50:1 per manual), spark plugs, and took off the carb and cleaned it. Not much in there to speak of. Blew out the jets, ran fishing line through them, etc. I put the engine back on the boat, and it would idle, but bog down as soon as I gave it throttle. Started messing with the idle mix screw, and was able to get it to respond to throttle til about 50% without dying, but I can't give it any more. Any suggestions? I have a sneaking suspicion it's probably getting too much gas, and therefor it's probably float heights. I'll find out the S/N tomorrow and check the proper manual for float heights, as I only have the owners manual at the moment, not the maintenance one. Just wanted some confirmation that it probably is float heights before I go and take the carb off again.
Cheers!
