Need a little help with a 1998 Mariner 6hp please. :)

There are two knobs on the transom clamp. I cannot figure out what it is they are supposed to do or maybe something is broke.

There is one on the left side and one on the right. No matter where I position them the motor seems to move up and down the same. I think they are supposed to adjust the trim??

They are NOT connected. The knob on the right side has 3 settings with little diagrams. The knob on the left side only has two positions, up and down, no markings.
Pictures below.

If anyone knows where I can download a owners manual for this motor I would sure appreciate it.

Picture 1: Tilt Lock.

Up is the LOCK position. In the locked position, the outboard cannot be lowered down. Down is unlocked position. To change positions, pull out on knob and pull the tilt lock.

Picture 2: Tilt Position (or Transom Angle) Adjustment

This should be self-explanatory.

Hmmm. Something must be broken or missing on the tilt lock. If I lift the motor all the way up until the motor cannot go any further it will drop down to the bottom stops every time and the way the ratchet bar moves back when the motor is all the way it appears like its supposed to work that way.

I cant see anything broken and it appears to be all there. Time to check out the ole parts diagram and see whats wrong.

Got it!

The bolt that holds the rubber stopper piece was so loose the stopper was just flopping out of the way.
Tightened it up and now it locks. : )
