Hi all I am new to this so bear with me. I have a 60 hp Mariner serial number 7217532 I am having trouble with the outboard motor leaking down in a couple of minutes from the trim position. After studying these forums it seems that I need to rebuild the valve body. This is a four hose system with two cylinders one each side of the outboard motor. The outer hose coverings are pretty much shot but they are not leaking. The pump motor was rebuilt just before I got this boat 2 years ago and it has always stopped after using for a few seconds. To go from the bottom to the top of extension it would stop in the middle and after a few seconds it would work fine. Has always done this since I owned the boat. I suspect there might be a temperature switch in the motor that is tripping. A valve body rebuild is $100, four hoses are about $230 plus a pump motor not sure how much. So a total fix is $330 plus a pump motor. Is it worth fixing this unit or is there a system that I can buy to replace it? Is there a cheaper way to get four new hoses?

Thanks for any assistance.

Re: Mariner 60 tilt trim trouble

I have bled the system a number of times and it makes no difference. It is not loosing any fluid as the reservoir is full. The motor will tilt up or down so pressure is there. It just wont stay where you leave it, it leaks down in a couple of minutes when running the boat. I do have some mechanical ability and a bit of knowledge with hydraulics but have never taken out spool valves etc and rebuilt them. Not sure if that is something I could do or not? I can't seem to find new replacements for these units. So am trying to find the best path forward.
