Hi,

I have just acquired a Mariner 5 HP 1 cylinder, 2 cycle. It's a 5c type engine and a 6E3 model type.

It's the one with the tiller that is attached right through the side of the engine.

No one seems to know when (during what time span) these motors were build. Actually, I want to buy a manual or it and I don't know which one to buy since they run from 1977 to 2002.

Anyone have a clue?

Thanks.

5M 6E3-159030 - 6E3-163303 1989
Great little runners those. Made by Yamaha for Mercury/Mariner. My uncle had one of those until it was finally stolen a couple years ago - it never let us down & idled great.

Hey Paul,

Thanks for looking that up. I thought you might have given up on me. 1989. OK. I'll get a manual for it soon.

Yes, it does idle well and has quite a bit of power for a 5HP. What I like is that it starts so well. 2 pulls when it's cold. One when it's hot.

Now, I have to put up a post on the trolling motor department. My brother-in-law's Motorguide foot control is crapping out on him. So I have to fix that. Does it ever end?

Take care. Norm

I heard that. I've been having so much fun fishing that I've been running my 25 with one dead cylinder until my part comes in. Good thing my favorite fishing hole is close to the dock.
