Mariner 4HP Outboard - Will not Idle

I purchased the motor five years ago. However, it only has ten or so hours on it. I cleaned it all up and put fresh fuel in it and it will start okay.

But, it will not idle unless it is set at very high rpm. At lower rpm, it just dies.

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

TRY TO ADJUST YOUR LOW SPEED JETS.

I'm an amateur. Can you tell me where the "low speed jets" are located? I have an idle screw and fuel mixture screw but not sure how one would adjust the jets.

Sorry for the bother and thanks in advance.

Jets in the carb which are quick easy to replace if you get a manual. I have never worked on a carb before boy is it easy.

Hi, Neil. I think this is a duplicate,but. . .
Low speed jets and Idle mixture mean pretty much the same thing. What Rex is suggesting is that you richen the low speed mixture, back out the idle mixture screw a half turn or so. If that doesn'r do any good, you may need to dismantle and clean your carb, with particular attention to the low speed circuit passages.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)
