Mariner 40HP Carb Problems-Pouring Gas Out Hole

I have an early 1980's model Mariner 40HP outboard and every time I pump the gas bulb, gas pours out of a hole on the top left of the carburetor.(This is the bottom carburetor) After I crank it, the gas pours out of the same hole non stop. I had both carbs rebuilt last year. The kits were $130.00 a piece & labor was $65.00 per carb. I wonder if the float might be stuck, would this make this happen? Or if maybe they did not correctly put the valve seat back in. If anyone has information about what could be causing this please let me know.
Thank you, Wilson

------------------
Wilson

I haven't seen the carbs on a Mariner but I think your guess at a stuck/bad float or valve seat is the right diagnosis. I'm sure the hole that you mention in the top must be a air vent for the carb.

Jeremy

Yes this is a air vent hole, and your needle seat is not suting off, or your float is hanging on th efloat pin, check it out, Frankies Marine
fmrs@greencis.net
