mariner 40 slow picking up all 4

I hope this gets to the merc. page. Ouch. My 40 Mariner 4 cylender 1993. runs on 2 or 3 cylenders for several min. After I first start it . The fuel bulb is hard, and it doesn't help to hit the primer. I put in new plugs that didn't help any. It will run and start , idle good all day after it gets going. Mick

It sounds like a switch box or stator that is going bad, they both need to be checked, if it's 3 cyls it is a switch box, but if its 2 it could be either one

Thanks I'll have to take it to some one smarter than myself. I wouldn't know where to start to check it out. I know there is some ohm and volt tests, but i'm in the dark.I ran it today. I have to get the rpms. up by going down stream then it will pick up all 4 ,and start and run all day after that. I guess I'm just trying to get stranded.Mick [on the big buddy.]
