Mariner 40 HP ser. # location & Yr. ??

Just purchased my first boat. Has a Mariner 40hp Magnum/4 cyl. dual carbs/ I Know nothing about boat Mtrs. Trying to determine the Year. found a few numbers- On Head by Plug/Cyl 3 # stamped is 1017 8359 On Front base of mtr? under the bottom carb I found 9809759 or possibly 9609759<br /><br />On the Transom mount? Im not sure what this part is called, its where the motor pivots left/right for steering, I found a sticker with the # OD295896 If these are not the numbers I need, where do I find them?? Motor seems to run fine, fires right up, havent had it in water yet. Any Quirks about this I need to know? is it a 4cyl/2 stroke? You guys are the Experts, I'm a newbie...But Im willing to learn! Thx in advance for the help!

OD295896 makes it a 1994
