mariner 40 horse outboard power trim

I have a mariner 40 horse 1991 and I replaced the power trim motor in the first of july. Now I can barely get the motor to go up or down it the trim motor turns to slow. Is this a major problem with this brand? It cost close to $300 TO REPLACE THIS MOTOR
