Hey all, I have an '86 Mariner 30 hp engine, no charging system present if that makes a difference.

I ran the engine for maybe 25 minutes today and stopped at a fishing spot, engine had run fine before this, and I had actually shut it off once already.

Well after we got done at the fishing hole it would not restart- or even sputter.

Got back to the ramp via Minn Kota power, and there i checked to see if there was compression (there was) and i checked to see if the plugs got spark, which they did.

Now the carb has been serviced already this year, and it sure seems like its getting fuel (plugs arnt dry).

I suspect a bad ignition component on underneath flywheel- sound possible?

Reason i say this is due to the fact that for the past year there has been a rubbing sound from the flywheel area- at first i thought it was a bad powerhead, but i ruled that out with a compression test and basic reasoning. Im thinking maybe this time the component that was making the noise failed? Any clue?

Thanks.
-John
