Hi

I have recently bought a Mariner 28 HP from 1976 (664-35xxx) outboard engine (also called 28 ML?)
This engine is in need of a new impeller, oil filter and oil seal.
Maby also a new fuel pump gasket?

Do anyone know the part number for these? Also if anyone know something else I should change since it was a long time anyone did a full service on this outboarder.

Any help is appreciated!

Here is the parts listing for your engine:

http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury-outboard/644.cfm

For the impeller, see item 41 under GEAR HOUSING ***'Y

As for the oil filter, there isn't one on this engine.

Maybe when you have a look through the parts listing you can identify what it is that you are looking for.

Thank you carholme

Should I change something else while Im changing Impeller? Like the seals thats connected to the impeller housing?
Also, can I use carb gasket sealent (on tube, water proof) on the lower unit gasket?

Depending on how long it has been since it was last run, I wouldn't worry about the seals for the moment, other than item 3 (Qty 2) under GEAR HOUSING ***'Y.

I would order new gaskets and diaphragm for the fuel pump and re-build it. When you have it apart you will be able to see the workings and see if you need anything else.

Change the oil in the lower unit, new sparkplugs and keep the old as spares if they are in decent shape, replace the fuel filter and associated O rings/gaskets and pull the carburetor for a good cleaning and again, depending on when it was last run, install a Repair kit, item 30 under Carburetor.

Check the general condition of the wiring for signs of age/corrosion etc.

Don't know what lower unit gasket you are referring to.

Great info, I'll start with the things you described.

There seems to be some kind of seal between the lower unit and the upper (middle) unit?
Dunno what to call it (Im swedish, my english might be a bit tricky somethimes).

Do the whole water pump, not just the impeller. it will save many headaches in long run.

When you say water pump, do you mean 40, 41, 42, 43 and 46?

I've never figured out what was included in a whole waterpump or water pump rebuild.

EDIT: I've heard people reference to the Impeller as the waterpump sometimes. Get's confusing.
