Mariner 15 hp serial number

I am trying to find the correct serial number on my 15 hp Mariner outboard. I did find a number and went to marinshopen.se and found a close match but the middle two numbers were missing. The number on the motor is 684cs250640. I called my local dealer and they said that "sounded right" but could not find it. I need a serial number so I can obtain a title for the motor.<br />Does anybody recognize these numbers?

I would use the number that is on the motor, even if it doesn't show up in a model/year listing. The serial number on the title is to serve as a unique identifying number.

Thanks for the info. You were correct! I called Texas Parks and Wildlife and they said an etching of that number and an affidavit from the previous owner and he could apply for a lost title and sign it over to me. Appreciate the response.
