Yeah me! I'm getting my first boat -- a 2000 Crownline 225BR. I'd like to upgrade the existing stereo which has a couple of 6x9's in the bow and smaller 5" in the driver and passenger kick panels. In my car (much smaller open space), I use and like the Alpine PDX-5 providing 4x75 and (sub). There's a marine version of the PDX-5, as well. For the 225 size, recommendations on power and speaker sizes?

Thanks!

Lol.. thanks for the input. I'm not trying to be like the kids with the cars/trucks that make YOUR car windows rattle. Just something to enjoy while crusing.

6X9 three ways in the front for sure. Can you enlarge the 5 inch (probably 5 1/4 inch if you're looking to replace those) to 6 1/2? 6 1/2 3 ways with built in crossovers are my vote for the rear. Get the lowest total harmonic distortion rating with the highest RMS input you can afford, marine rated, of course.

Check Ebay. I recently purchased a Clarion CDM-6 with four jbl 6.5" speakers for about $300. I plugged in just two speakers last night while installing to make sure I had everything done correctly and I was very impressed! Once the other two are in it will be twice the system I had before. FYI, I also purchased a JBL amp with another four 6.5 jbl speakers. I know they are small but I assure you the sound is quality. Like you, I'm not into the "kid" boom box thing, but a 31 foot sport boat just wouldn't be complete without a little beach or island music on the day cruise or at a sandbar party. Seariously, check them out. JBL 6.5s come in 6100 and 6200 series. The 6100s are the lesser only in wattage. The 6200s came with the amp to handle the additional power.

I would highly recommend the Infinity 6912M 6x9 marine speakers ($90 - http://www.amazon.com/Infinity-Refe...2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1329315116&sr=1-2) they are unreal beautiful sounding. Couple that with an MBQuart NAU460 4 channel marine amp ($110 - http://www.amazon.com/MB-Quart-NAU4...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1329315063&sr=1-1) and you'll be loving it.

I run 4 of those MB Quart amps to 14 of the Infinity 6x9s and 6 Polk 4"s in the swim deck. Upgraded 200 amp marine alternator, dual battery with isolator solenoid.. in an 18' boat. :D

Make SURE to use marine grade 4AWG power wire and don't cut corners on your install hardware! Use fused power distribution blocks and quality hardware. Connect alternator directly to battery post with nice, new 4-6AWG marine grade power wire.

Good luck!
