I am about to put this new water pump on my 72 hydro electric, the videos I watched recommend using a gasket sealent but I forget to get the Johnson evinrude stuff from the boat shop, i stopped at a hardware store and they had marine goop, close enough? anyone have any experience with this stuff? and is that cure time really 24 hours?! I think the Johnson stuff sets much quicker

Noone has used goop? Thank you for the reply Scott, I will get some aviation sealer, I just left a job at a airport, so i can go talk to my old boss, a A&P Mechanic and get some sealer, just surprised there is no one who has tried goop

Goop is sealer/adhesive and works just fine.If I didn't have a healthy supply of permatex av sealer goop would suffice.I also have a sealer/adhesive from Polaris that's excellent but the name eludes me right now.

I'm not sure anything is needed, but wouldn't use anything that cures or sets. Don't want an adhesive, and silicone isn't a good choice -- if for no other reason, could break up and send bits and pieces up the water tube where it could lodge somewhere in a water passage. Guess I would either use nothing, or get some of the OMC or Permatex gasket sealer. JMO.
