I was at the lake on Saturday and 2 marina employees were pulling 2 plastic Jet Ski docks out of the water and on to a trailer. As they were pulling the docks out of the water, they started falling off the trailer. The driver backed the truck up so the other guy could put the docks back on. He stopped the truck, but the trailer kept on going - under water, and under the boat dock that was next to the ramp. The other guy was on the trailer as it went under and I thought I was going to have to go in after him.

As they were sitting there trying to figure out how they were going to get out of the mess, the driver looked up and said "You'd think we've never heard of safety chains before!" :D

I've done some really stupid things before, but thanks to those guys I will NEVER forget my safety chains.

I couldn't laugh at them because what goes around comes around. They were able to laugh at themselves though. What else could you do in that situation...

I would have laughed anyway knowing they will laugh at me.
last time they all had a good laugh I had jumped from the dock into a boat for service, a black piece of braided dock line coiled and struck at me, looked like about a 27 ft long copper headed water rattler at the time. that includes the part I saw and the part I thought I saw. anyway I only hit the deck with one foot and continued off the other side into the water. dock hands had that piece of rope hung over my work bench in less than 20 minutes :)
thats the beauty of working at the docks :) ya never know when something really funny is gonna happen. you just hope it does not happen to you :)

Re: Marina Employee's Mishap

actually its rather strange. usually when I do something stupid I have a larger audience. I figured with that stunt someone would have got it on tape. but there was only a few about that morning. rather odd.
not unlike the afternoon at Norfolk yacht and country club, got my shoelace hung on a dock cleate at low tide. had me upside down about shoulder deep in the water. had to flail like crazy to keep my head out. took about an hour(it seemed) to get my shoe off. and when I was done a bunch of so called freinds and customers were holding up paper plates with numbers on it and laughing. about 10 or 12 of them having cocktails on a yacht about 2 slips down. but as I worked on all their boats I silently added it to future bills :) :) :) .
bad thing was I think an 8 was as high as I got, they said due to excessive arm flailing. at least I did get a good burbon out of it :) .
