Re: mar. 60hp

A couple things I would check.
1) Compression test on motor - verify all cyls within 10% of each other and readings over 100PSI
2) Inspect lower unit oil for metal chips and/or water.
3) Does motor still have oil injection system hooked up ?
4) At the very least, run the motor on muffs or in a barrel. Let it get up to operating temp and see how it runs. Check for good water flow from the telltale. Ideally take the whole rig for a test run before handing over the cash.
5) Does it have power tilt/trim ? Check the operation.
6) Do a flex test on the transom. Tilt the motor up and apply force (100Ib+) to the motor lower unit. The transom should not flex at all.
7) Measure the voltage at the battery while the motor is running. You should see between 13.5 and 15 volts DC. If not, something is wrong with the charging/regulating system.
8) Pull all spark plugs and inspect. They all should look the same. Be suspicious if one is different.
9) CHeck for smooth gear change F-N-R while running.
Just a few thing to consider. Good luck.
