I have a 81-70 hp merc motor, with manual tilt. Are those 2 cylinders on outside of motor supposed to have oil in them, and should they make it easier to tilt? Because this bugger is hard to tilt.

------------------

Re: Manual tilt

yes they are supposed to have oil, my
1973 johnson 65 could barely move, but
I put some oil (you can get in any marine
store and i dont know the name of the top of
my head) and now it works great. I dont know
if its me, but dont those older engines seem
to be heavier?

your ok Jarhead,
The 2 cyl are to keep the motor from ending up in the drivers seat if you hit a deadhead at WOT. they are one way shocks. Don't mess with them. The balance point for you compared to the motor is off your to high in reference to the motor. Get a bigger girl friend. sorry, just kidding.
