Manifold Stud torque

Mercruiser 7.4.

Just bought all new manifolds, risers, and spacers for both motors. They had hex head bolts, 4 of the heads snapped off coming off, so im not going to reuse them, seems silly to reuse old manifold bolts anyways.

The new manifolds came with studs however, I know the torque on the nut would be 30 ft lbs, but what are you supposed to torque the stud to in the cylinder head?

Should i just toss the studs and go with all new stainless head head bolts?

Re: Manifold Stud torque

never use stainless. i put the studs in with some avaition sealant on the threads and thread in the studs in by hand til the threads run out then turn a 1/4 turn with 2 nuts turned against each other then jsut torque the nuts with proper torque once manifold is installed.

What brand of sealant do you use? (I happen to be an aircraft tech)

What kind of bolts are appropriate if not stainless?
