Manifold Removal.

I am removing OMC Log style manifolds from a 5.0 Ford. All nuts and bolts are removed and the manifold is loose from head but will not remove because of a bolt that screws up from the engine mount. This bolt looks like it is used to support the manifold when installing. I have screwed this bolt all the way flush on the engine mount. Does not go low enough to clear the manifold when sliding off the manifold bolts.<br />Anyone else run into this?

Digitaldav, wish I could help but my 302/5.0 is a Mercruiser and has different log manifolds. Is it a stud with a nut or an ordinary bolt?

jasonnb, It is a ordinary bolt theaded into the top of the engine mounts.

Obviously Trent has this one figured out... <br />not being an Omc kind of guy, i'll take a stab at it anyway.....<br />If I were looking at this situation, i'd double nut the studs, remove as many as needed, then lift the manifold in a more vertical manner....<br />of course, this is sight unseen, just a common sense approach.....

bondo, I am hoping I will not have to do that but you are correct that would be a way to remove them, that's if the studs come out. There must be some other way to remove. The manifolds would slide right off if this *!"#.. bolt would screw down farther.

Well, you Could remove the motor mount instead ...!!! once you get it apart, remove the offending do nothing bolt,+ toss it overboard.... or if it actually has a purpose, use a shorter one....<br />Oh ya, reassemble with Neversieze.... the job will be much easier next time...

Really would need more information on which engine he's working on. Is it one of the older OMC setups or one of the newer OMC/Volvo units. I've never come across a bolt from the engine mount getting in the way when sliding the manifold off the studs. Does this bolt look factory or could someone or the boat builder have added something? Like was said, I'd attempt to double nut the studs and screw them out so you could lift the manifold straight up. You're not talking about the adjustment bolt for the engine alignment are you?

Capt Kent,<br />What info would you like?<br />Model#502APRMED<br />This engine has the Log Style manifolds was told were only used two years. I tried to Email you a diagram of the mount but your address did not work. It is definitly a factory bolt.

Didn't know if this was one of the older stringer models or newer cobra. You could always place a jack under the lip of the oil pan where it bolts to the block, and support that side while you remove the engine mount. Or use any type of lift to support the front of the engine from the lifting eye. Be creative.

digitaldav,<br /><br />Removing the engine mount shouldn't change anything. As long as you are not unbolting the engine from the transom section, your drive line should remain in alignment.

Right, nothing should change. Now, ya don't want to go jacking that thing to the sky. Just take the weight off the mount, remove lag bolts to stringer, then bolts connecting it to the block.
