Have just replaced both sides on my volvo 5.7 1993 engine. One side I had no problem with, the other side I did.
When fitting the riser, it did not seem to sit flat on the manifold. This i put down to the rubber hose pulling it down slighty, however on putting the bolts in they appeared to be to long. I then cleaned out the manifold bolt holes with a tap,and they now seem to fit.
The problem i have is that the riser is weeping to the outside with the engine running. The riser is above water level so will i be okay leaving it like this till i can get to the boat again or is the riser going to leak.

I like to keep the water outside the boat. I think you should fix it correctly as soon as possible.

Ayuh,... Even though the riser is above sea level,....
It's also Above the Cylinders, which will fill with water, if the riser Leaks...

If the riser leaks to the outside it doesnt mean that it is leaking to the inside (engine) but there is a good chance. Next time you install the risers instead of disconnectiong at the first rubber hose, use the one downsteam of the elbow, that way you can bring the riser straight down and it wont get cocked.

i agree...no leaking is what you want......i'd suggest new gaskets....AND...using gasket sealer...i've had good luck with the older permatex...plyable....just be sure you dont get any in the water passages...

speaking of manifolds.....anybody have any experience with the newer ceramic ones???

Are you using Volvo manifolds and risers? If so, are you using the Volvo metal shim gasket?

Sorry for the late reply don.
The parts I am using are sierra with a warning not to use any sealant on the gaskets.
