Remember the old joke? "Man, looking for good woman that can cook and clean, and has a boat. Please send picture of boat."
Well, it happened. I did meet my wife via the internet. Great woman. And... she has a boat. It's a Wellcraft Suncruiser 2000. Not sure of the year. It's been stored in someone's back yard for a few years. And in Northern Nevada, it snows. So it's had some troubles over the years, and it's been snowbound for a few years as well. Her idiot x-husband was a kind of "Tim-the-toolman-Taylor" kinda guy, and thought he and some other idiot friend could do alot of the work themselves.
Well, yesterday... I was able to get inside and take a good look around. Pretty rough, but not a total loss. The hull is sound, just some bad gouges that need attention on the bow. Transom seems in good shape. Engine well has alot of grime and goop, but no oil leaking. She told me the engine a 5.7 Mercruiser (Chevy 350) is a rebuild that's only a few years old as well. There are no manifolds tho. The deck floor is plywood, and needs to be ripped out and something way better put in it's place. And I'm sure the Volvo-Penta outdrive need a good service, and a new hull seal.
Idiot X rewired the craft with the help of idiot friend, and it looks like my 6th grader was trying to complete a science project with a flashlight and some scrap wire.
So... I am the proud owner of a project boat. Sound familiar. I'll be on checking on opinions, and posting my progress. Been a car buff for about 30 years, and an aircraft mechanic for as long. Hope I don't die fixing this tho...
