Well fellow iboaters, after a long winter the fishing bug has had me down. I have tried a few times in the last few weeks with no success for me, my buddy has landed a few panfish, but not I, today I had gone long enough without catching fish, my wife said I was crazy it was in the low 40's here today, but has been warmer so the water temp was actually in the low 50's when I launched my john boat today. An hour of fishing stained water and not 1 bite. I finally sat down and realized I wasn't using my head. So I opened up the tackle box made me a jig with some rattles, added a craw trailer and 4 casts later I finally landed my first fish of the year.
Fish picture

Man what a way to start the year. A 5lb 15oz bucketmouth. Sitting here tonight with a smile on my face after pics of it, weighing and watching her swim back off, I thought I would brag and also hope each of you start your year like I did.

Cheers

Matt

I bet you were in about 3 or four feet of water with a mud bottom. Early season when the water is cold that is the best place to find fish. The sun warms the mud and the water there is the warmest on the lake. Nice looking fish. I cant wait for ice off so I can catch a few.

Nice fish there. Seems like today was the day. I got things rolling today with a spring run chinook that was about 25 pounds. It was a native and not keepable so I let it go asap. No pics and no official weight but that's not the point. I sure feel better now.

Re: Man I am glad winter is over.

Thanks guys, was tough sleeping last night, after a winter that seemed would never end so the water could warm up a good day of fishing made it tough. I was fishing a rock and earthen dam that was facing the sun. So I'm sure she was sunning and I just happen to put the bait right in her face. Well I only hope that this is not the best one of the year. Good luck everyone. I'm going again tomorrow only my expectations have gone up a bit from "Man I just wanna catch a fish" to "Man I hope I can land another like that one"

:D :D :D

Now you have done it Drive Camp.
You fired me up,you put spring in my head.
Last week I drove down to my favorite fishing spot.I was glad to see that the ice fisherman had gone and there was water along the shores.
Today I read your post and got carried away.I hitched the boat up, went out, bought some bait and headed south to my fishing hole.Once there I reaped some good laughs from ....the icefisherman. He told me that by the middle of the week the ice was good and hard again, so he went back to depleting my fishing hole of good pike and walleye which he uses to supplement his social security check.
Worst of all upon coming back,I got my van stuck in the backyard, backing up the boat back to its parking spot!I hate getting stuck.
