Not sure if this is the correct forum or not, but just wondering if can get a little advice on making gaskets. I pulled the sediment bowl and screen off my old 14 HP McCulloch and the cork gasket is falling apart. Would it be OK to cut a new paper one out of gasket material? Double it up maybe? My other though is rubber, but not sure if that would hold up to the fuel. Paper is not spongy like cork and rubber is not the same either. Wish I could think of some place to scarf me up some thin cork.

Thanks for the link. Didn't know about that stuff. I found a water pump gasket for a SBC that had the right ID and thickness. I cut the OD down to fit. Just don't know how it'll like gasoline since it's made for antifreeze. Fingers crossed. Good to know they sell cork by the sheet.

Yes the bowl is round. Thanks for the idea. The cork is wide and flat though, not much like an O ring.

If the bowl is glass, probably why the gasket is cork....cork is much more forgiving on uneven surfaces. Cork gasket material is availiable, just have to search. If you know of any old car buffs or antique motor folks, they should be able to hook you up..

Good stuff guys. Thanks for the edjimication. I'll figure this all out yet. Going to be so cool to get this thing running like it should. It ran when I got it and then just quit.
