1st of all my engine has all of 2.7 hours so I am not about to actually do this, but...….

I have read in numerous places that all you need to do is take out a restrictor in the intake and walla, you have a 60 hp engine.

I have read the only difference is the ECU on a 60 has rev limiter at 6200 rpm where a 50 is 6000, injectors, everything is the same part number or so I have read.

Claims of 6 more mph and several hundred rpm more.

Anyone actually done this without blowing up your engine.

This would be a 2018 F50 we are talking about

That's a 4strokes EFI or carb controlled with an ECU ?

On the F50LB EFI model you will need a new ECU. At a minimum.

800 bucks retail. Both the F50LB and the F60LB are red lined at 6000 RPM. Both make their maximum HP at 5500 RPM.

There are no free lunches.

Like I said, I am in no hurry to do it, up to 3.2 hours now, just seeing if anyone else had heard of it.

They claim increased gas consumption and rpm with the restrictor removed.

It is just a small rubber washer that necks down the intake.

Maybe the next time the Yamaha guy is in at work see if I can trade him a case of beer for a reflash….

Methinks you are confusing a carburetted F50 with an EFI F50.

Personally don't buy that simple cheap conversion. If both 50 and 60 OB's shares same CC powerheads with all being equal, the upgrading is usually done removing carb gasket restriction and increasing time advance accordingly to compensate the extra fuel air intake. On those EFI will need to buy a new 60 HP ECU for that to happen, or send that 50 ECU to a electronic guy who knows what to do and update that ECU's working parameters to match the 60 one.

Mechanically can simply remove the carb's gasket but won't know if the OB is now running fully converted to a 60 HP one. OTOH there is a price difference between both models in the order of some hundred bucks, do you think that the factory guys are so darn stupid to simply place a 3 dollar gasket for mortals to pass a 50 to a 60 for peanuts cost, that won't happen...
