Make your own rod?

Has any one done it? I am signed up for a class that will teach us to make our own freshwater rod. Seems like a good deal. We get blemish loomis blanks, fuji guides, fuji real seats, cork handles, and all the other BS we need and 4 hands on class's for about 65 bucks. <br /><br />Looking forward to it.

To i know a guy names Mattman on tackletour.com and he is an EXCELLANT rod builder and very experianced. That class should be really fun to do. Im not into the rod making more of the lure spraying and design. HAVE FUN!

A few years ago my parents bought me a 5 piece Cabelas fly rod kit. It's fun during the dead winter, but wouldn't want to be doing it while there's still fish to be caught. Turned out allright considering I was using my fly tying bodkin to wrap the thing. It doesn't look great but it sure casts pretty well, especially for a 5 piece rod. <br /><br />That's a great price you've got there. Good luck with it.

Bro in law made me one, ugly as sin, but fishes real nice, St. Croix blank.<br /><br />I bought me some supplies but have only made me a practice rod, to get the hang of wrapping and coating.<br /><br />Have others to make, but just don't seem to get around to it.

I have repaired some rods before, new eyes new reel seats, and refinished some. I do know its easier to just buy one.

I made several spinning rods and a sweet little fly rod about 25 years ago. They are still catching fish. It's very rewarding to catch fish on a rod that you made. Taking the class is a great way to get started, Enjoy!

Took the first class today. Spent the time on theory and the do's and do not's. The instructor and his father have been building rods for many years. I gained more knowledge of fishing rods today than I have in my entire life. Wish I had done something like this a long time ago. Cool! Never made one myself, but had an old friend, now deceased, that made me a sweet split bamboo fly rod. I hate to use it any more since he is not around to repair it!
