Hi Guys

I have a 1999 225 Ficht with a serious problem. Exhaust is blowing ote the 2 holes (where the cooling water comes out) on the back of the engine. I also can see som exhaust coming out down at the gearcase. I dont think it`s a blown head gaskest, because compresion seems ok. The engine runs very rough as well. Any of you experts out there got an idea?

Cooling water does not come out of the 2 exhaust holes at idle. It comes out the tell-tale fitting just under and between the exhaust outlets. It is normal to see exhaust coming out of the gearcase and thru the prop. If exhaust is coming out at the gearcase-midsection area, then the rubber seal is probably bad or kinked. You have to remove the gearcase the exhaust extention to replace it.

Most of the time a poor idle is caused by worn or incorrect plugs. Post the compression numbers, plug numbers, and gap. If the center electrodes are worn or rounded, install and index new plugs.

If I remeber right there are some gaps around where the gearcase meets the midsection. It helps prevent fretting and corrosion. It should have been standard on teh saltwater engines and the fichts.
