I am planning on mail ordering a Yamaha 9.9 4 stroke from Florida. I live in California. Is there anything I should consider prior to doing this? Will I be able to get Warranty work done in CA? Is there a difference between Florida and California 4 Stroke Yamaha designs? Am I missing anything? Thank you for your help.

No engine manufacturer has supported selling crated motors for quite some time. The exception being Force with the Sears line. Most now require a predelivery checklist be accomplished and signed by both the dealer and consumer for the warranty to be in effect. This predelivery is extra important with current 4 strokes and could leave you without warranty protection.Furthermore what motivation doe's your local dealer have to look at your motor and give it priority when he finds you have bought it on line?

Check with a dealer in your area and see if they would do a dealer run-up for you. It may cost you a couple bucks, but if they will sign off on the warranty card it should be worth it. You may also assure the dealer that when you need service, you'll tote it back to his address. ;)
