Does anybody make a magnetic drain plug that will fit on the L.U. for my '74 Mercury inline 6? Last time I drained the oil there was alot of metal in it...
Me thinks you need more than a magnetic plug. If the amount of metal was noticeable, something is coming apart that isn't supposed to. A fine powdery material is normal wear and tear but pieces of metal is a bad sign.
It was just small metal flakes...though there was quite a bit of it. There was quite a bit of gear grinding when I first got the boat, due to a problem with the control box, I'm hoping that's the only reason for the metal...
My 1979 Merc 140 has a magnet on the drain plug. The little bit of powdery metal I get is all but impossible to get off the magnet though.<br /><br />Craig
