I know this has been mentioned before, but I thought I'd just add my voice to the chorus of praises for the Magic Eraser. It ain't cheap, but it IS amazing. If you have marks on the upholstery and have tried everything to no avail pick up six or eight of these little jewels and I promise you'll be more than pleasantly surprised. That is all.;)

I haven't had much luck with them on upholstery. I use Clorox Clean-up for the white vinyl. It works incredibly well.

The Mr. Clean erasers work great on gel coat stains, although they do remove the wax. I had used them on stains that were there for years and nothing would remove them. The erasers took it off in seconds.

I LOVE those things! They were instrumental in helping me clean up my 30 yr old freebie boat.

someone said they are basically 2400 grit wet sandpaper. I see no reason to let that worry you, unless you use it daily, or on plexiglass.

They work great for polishing bare aluminum and making coated aluminum bare.
Don't use them on pontoon rails; they'll blind you like chrome and will be hotter to the touch. (No I didn't; but an associate did and had to steel wool his rails to dull them up a bit.)

I use Magic eraser on the painted side panel of my toon to get the black streaking off. I have done so last three years. Does a good job and has not hurt the painted panels.

Yep, my wife swears by them. She will use the cheaper version from the dollar stores, too. ;)

Had not thought off it before, but I wonder if it'll take off the black bomb-can paint the PO got all over the aluminum gunnel of my boat?? I'll have to try it.

Magic Eraser is made from melamine foam and is just a mild abrasive, like ultrafine sandpaper. The Dollar store or WalMart ones are the same. There may be some difference in consistency between brands.
I'd be a little hesitant with the Clorox because the chlorine can affect the strength of the threads used in the stitching.
The eraser is great for cleaning puck marks off hockey gear.

I've used it to remove stubborn fish blood stains from the boat. Definitely beats anything else I've tried.

Used these to clean up the vinyl before I put the boat away, followed by 303. They work really well I just wish they lasted longer.

I've been an upholsterer for 18 years and I have been using Clorox Clean-up for approximately the last 6-8 years without any issue what-so-ever. There is less than 1% Sodium Hypochlorite (bleach) so affecting the stitching isn't an issue like it would be with stronger concentrations of straight bleach/water.

The real active ingredients are Luaramine Oxide (stabilizer & primary cleaner), sodium hydroxide (alkalide/cleaner), and sodium silicate (an inhibiter which stops soils from readhering).

Trust me...works great!

Re: Magic Eraser Really is Magic!

Straight bleach like Clorox is usually about 6% sodium hypochlorite so it is much stronger and would cause more damage, more quickly. You would disinfect in a restaurant with less a mix of about 10:1 water to bleach so it's still a fairly high level in the cleaner, which is why I said I'd be a little hesitant.
You've certainly got more experience that me if you've spent that long in the business. I'd also not want to use Magic Eraser on a regular basis for the risk of damaging the vinyl. But I'll still avoid most chlorine products as regular cleaners on my vinyl. :)

Sorry...I should have also mentioned that if you use ANY chemicals (including Magic Erasers), rinse with fresh, clean water afterward.

Another safety tip...
Sunday morning I finished some interior work with acetone and Magic Eraser before backing the boat in to the carport.

An hour later I helped a friend recover at my ramp. I felt a slight headache coming on.

An hour after that, I thought my brain was going to crawl through my eyeballs and I couldn't even keep water down.

The only other time that I've felt like that was when I accidentally mixed Comet and Lysol while cleaning.

The only two things I used that morning was acetone and Magic Eraser. The two may have had contact and migranes with much puking ensued.

Re: Magic Eraser Really is Magic!

You created chloramine gas when you mixed comet (sodium hyplchlorite) and lysol (ammonia). Very deadly in the right concentrations.

NEVER mix household chemicals together. They're made to clean on their own merit. That's why they're created in their respective strengths. They're made to do a certain job at their individual proportions and don't need scientists (such as ourselves) trying to make them better.
