I took apart the lower unit of my old M800 to be sure there wasn't a gear problem after the motor got run backwards for about 15 minutes.

Besides it needing a water pump everything else looks great. But not sure how to get it back together. I just pulled the "big nut" off and pulled the prop shaft out with the gear on it to look in and be sure it's all ok. This thing just had new seals installed and I don't have the $$$$ to have somebody just bolt this thing back together.

So since i didn't change anything or reshim anything, I just need to put it back together but I don't know how tight to make that "big nut" (like a spanner nut). Do I just tighten it until it won't tighten anymore? It doesn't look like it messes up any gear end play or backlash. Or is there a procedure I'm missing to tighten that back down before putting the prop back on?

Thanks.

The 'big nut' should be torqued to 210ft.lbs.

You'll need the special tool to do it....
