M50D pilot screw and low idle problem

I recently cleaned the carbs on my M50D and reinstalled. The motor runs great above idle speed however it kills when I back down to idle.
I noticed that the ends of the pilot screws are cylindrical in shape as if worn to pin. Should these be cone shaped?
I'm wondering if that may be the cause of not being able to fine tune my low idle speed.

Thanks,
Mike

Hey Mike, the ideal setting for your air/fuel mix is 1 & 1/2 turns outwards from soft stop .....

Blunted and the 1 1/2 turns is correct as an intial setting. Each carburetor is then adjusted from that point.
