lync & sync question

Gents,

I'm planing on doing the lync & sync on my 99 Johnson 225. I've got the factory manual and I've read it so many times I'm cross eyed. It would appear to be fairly straight forward. So my question is really looking for some reassurance, can a non-mechanic who with some mechanical ability do this? Is it as straight forward as it appears? I'd like your feedback.

Thanks

link/sync is straight forward just don't turn too many things all at once.HINT when you go to set idle timing run motor in tank/lake don't set timing to book spec set it where it runs good in gear.note idle timing has no effect on w.o.t.

Re: lync & sync question

Piston damage can occur if timing is not set to spec. If it doesn't run well when timing is set correctly it is probably something else that needs to be looked at. Set the timing with a timing light while at the boat ramp ebrake on with bow strapped to the trailer.

agree with timing. if you miss a step. go to the beginning, and start over.

Re: lync & sync question

Start at the point where there have been changes. For example; if the engine was running well before you cleaned and replaced the carburetors, leave the timing alone and move to the next step.
