Re: Luhrs alura 30

Cruise would be around 14kts. I'd expect it to handle extremely well. That is a stout boat. Not sure on fuel consumption numbers, but a single diesel at semi-displacement speeds should be low.

I own a 1987 Luhrs Alura 30' - It is a great boat - I was fortunate to find one in excellent condition and meticulously cared for by airline pilot owner. I purchased it in Tampa Florida and shipped it to Seattle Dec 2017.

It is powered with a Yanmar 240hp Diesel (580hrs)and Bowthruster. I keep very accurate records and have a very accurate GPS with speed. Whats amazing is I can have 4 adults with me or boat empty and gallon per hour/speed results don;t change - The Yanmar has such great torque and extremely economical compared to my previous boat which had a Volvo TMAD 240hp.

The boat cruising stats:
2400RPM = 13mph - 2 gal/hr
2600RPM = 15mph 2.5 gal/hr
2700RPM = 16mph 3 gal/hr
2800RPM = 17mph - 3.5 gal/hr
2900RPM = 18-19MPH 4 gal/hr
3000RPM = 20mph 5 gal/hr (this is recommended cruising RPM)

The boat handles well - I have trim tabs which keep the bow down and increases speed a tiny bit - Following seas can be challenging just like any other boat.
Lots of room, tons of room in engine compartment with only 1 engine. Cockpit large enough to play soccer:) and tons of storage/bait wells/etc.
Great family/fishing/cruising boat - cruises great at 2700RPM doing 16mph. Smooth as silk and tough in big waves.

As mentioned my boat is extremely clean and everything is super organized like all wiring/connections etc. It has A/C-Heat, battery charging system, owner installed fuel gauges on aluminum tanks for backups and everything works well.

My only complaint is the V berth for sleeping - the storage shelves which also act as backrests for seating make the V berth a bit narrow than needed for 2 people - I move around a lot while sleeping and find it annoying - I plan to cut and hinge these shelves so i can lift them up/secure them in upright position and give more room to V berth

I just had bottom painted/did zincs - photos of my boat on next post

Talking to yourself. The OP left over 5 years ago, more than a year after starting this thread.
