Went out on Saturday with the family and kid's friends. Great time tubing and cruising. Headed back to beach for second time and I drop the anchor and hold on to the end of the line. I just bought an Anchor Buddy and I use that to hold the anchored stern off the beach. Wind was blowing and we drifted over the anchor rope. Once seeing the prop was clear of the rope, we started the boat and I had my wife slowly circle around to get set up for beaching. Well, we went further than I expected and that anchor line got pretty tight, so tight in fact that I let go. Not tied off! Down goes the anchor, the rode, the line, and the new anchor buddy. We were in 25 ft of water. I futiley tried to see if I could see the small buoy connected to the rode and floating up about three feet. Of course I couldn't. I put a mask on, but couldn't see a thing. I tried to forget about and we went on with the day.

Today, Monday, at noon I went to Harbor Freight and bought a big magnet and 50 feet of cheap line, spent $24. Tonight, went with friends to the lake and got back to the spot where we thought we lost it. Started pulling the magnet around the area sliding along the bottom. Tried throwing the magnet off the sun pad in a casting pattern. After about 50 minutes, we felt something. Maneuvered the boat to be right on top of the magnet, and pulled it up. It was attached to the end of the anchor rope with the thimble and D-ring. Pulled up my anchor, and line, and all, and its now safely stowed back on the boat. My lucky day. If I played the lottery, I'd buy a ticket. Next time I drop anchor, I'll make sure it's tied off.
