Can someone explain to me the difference between wet sump and dry sump lubrication?
Was also wondering if you 4 stroke owners use a 10% ethanol blended gasoline.
Thank you.S

Re: Lubrication

The "sump" is the area around the crankshaft. When this area is used to store lubricant that is not in the pressurized lube cycle it is called a wet sump.

In a dry sump system the oil not in circulation is stored in a seperate oil tank.

Many older motorcycles, radial aircraft engines and others use a dry sump system.

Four stroke outboards run fine on 10% ethanol.

Thank you JB.
I noticed that Yamaha motors have a wet sump and the Mercury motors are dry.
