Lubrication points

I am getting ready to lube my 1984 johnson 115 engine linkages and other points, My manual does not tell me what kind of lube to use could someone tell me what is a good lubricant for this. WD-40? oil?<br /><br />Thank you. :confused:

Strauser<br />This is more a personal preference than a set in stone req'mnt. I use wd40 to clean the linkages, and then a light coating of white lithium grease for lube. Seems to hold up well all season, every season.<br />Good luck

thank you i will do that do you wipe the linkages off before you put the grease on?

WD-40 is a good cleaner and water displacer. It was never intended for the many lubricating tasks we give it.<br /><br />Angus' technique is excellent.

I use wd40 and compressed air to breakdown and blow away the old stuff. Wiping doesn't seem to be effective in the small joint areas.

i ALWAYS spray wd-40 all over my linkages and engine after every trip and my engine is very clean and everything moves free.dont forget to greese the fittings.
