I've just replaced the engine in my 1968 Owens Sea Skift (283 chev)and the transmission won't go into gear. I suspect that it's the oil is very low (I spilt it removing it) On the dip stick it says use type a lubricant. is this transmission oil or hydrolic.......................................?

Re: lubricants

Thanks Trent. I should have spoken to you sooner as my neighbor,(who says that he is a mechanic) advised that I use gear oil. Bad move. I have flushed it 5 times now and it still a little foamy. I will fill it with trans fluid when I'm done flushing.
